Avignon

Avignon

This past weekend was easter weekend. As a child I remember this weekend as a chocolate fest and easter egg hunting expedition. Eating hot cross buns until my tummy aced. Unfortunately this year I did not indulge in the chocolate festivities, but went on a different adventure to Avignon. Reminiscing about all that a church and easter has to offer.

Avignon is most definitely called the windy city for a reason. With it's beautiful landscapes and history, it comes with a bit of an windy downside. Never the less, we fully dived into the touristic scene and got our fix to last us a couple of months. With 2,596 hours of sunshine a year (without the wind), it gives no one the right to complain!

We went on a tour to the Palace of the Popes. I was mesmerised at the sight of the beautiful dining hall. The magnitude of the kitchen and all it's masses of recorded produce. Not to mention the artwork and the rebuilding of this historic Palace over the ages.

Afterwards we ate lunch (my usual, caesar salad) and raspberry and mango Gelato for dessert. We strolled down to the Pont Saint-Bénézet bridge, took a few pics and decided that it was that for the day. I was ready for a cosy night in Saint Rémy de Provence. I realised once again that being a tourist is hard work!

Saint Rémy de Provence is a little town about 25 minutes drive away from Avignon. Filled with little boutiques and restaurants for the indulgence of the touristic eye (...and wallet). Filled with tempting Boulangeries and Patisseries with their colourful window decorations.

In Saint Rémy, we had dinner at L'Aile ou la Cuisse, French cuicine and for the second night we chose a comforting favourite, pizza, at De Peppe.

On the day of depart we decided to have breakfast in Saint Rémy. After looking around for what felt like a eternity in the icy wind, we found our Petit dejeuner to be delightful in a local bistro. a Omelet "nature" does go down nicely if you can find one on a sunday in France.

We said our goodbyes to our family and farewell to Saint Rémy de Provence.

I know that visiting these two towns was a good choice. It gave me a chance to review the old and happily, eagerly awaiting the new (my sister's baby).

Travelling in the provence gives me a new perspective and inspiration. The scent of flowers, sight of the countryside and the sound of the wind will be hard to forget...

Have a look...
